Samsung blasts Galaxy phones worldwide with weird ‘1’ in Find my device notification

In what appears to be a curious accident, Galaxy phone users worldwide have received a mysterious notification from Samsung’s Find My Mobile app. The alert, which several users are reporting, simply reads “1” with another “1” below it.

Tapping on the notification automatically cleared it with no subsequent action. However, our own Garrett noticed that the battery use by the Find My Mobile app was abnormally high, which some Twitter users also corroborate. It isn’t immediately obvious if the battery issue is related to the erroneous notification, and Samsung hasn’t clarified that either.

Our own executive editor Dieter Bohn received the notification on his Galaxy Z Flip, which he is in the process of testing for review. Tapping the alert seemingly does nothing beyond closing the notification shade.
A few hours after the word quickly went out, with many throwing around their own theories, Samsung’s UK arm cleared the air with a tweet. It apologized for the occurrence and stated that the “Find My Mobile 1” notification was indeed unintentional and was sent out during an internal test.
Samsung isn’t the first company to send out bizarre notifications to a wide audience. Last year OnePlus accidentally blasted its users with garbled text and Chinese characters in what turned out to be a failed internal test for a software update.
